Travel Diary: Asturias, España

Si hay algo que he aprendido en mis últimos viajes es que puedes viajar a un destino, a una cutura e incluso, a alguna década o siglo. Sin importar el destino, viajar siempre te transportará a lo desconocido. Eso nos sucedió cuando visitamos Asturias. Sentimos que nos adentrábamos no solo a un nuevo destino, sino que además nos transportamos en el tiempo y nos deleitábamos con su cultura. Por alguna razón, Asturias se ha convertido en el destino favorito de los españoles; pero sin duda alguna, es ahora uno de mis destinos preferidos.

Asturias es un estado al norte de España que limita con el mar Cantábrico, pero que nos sorprende con numerosos paisajes montañosos. Praderas verdes, acantilados, montañas, playas y ciudades. No me sorprende si alguien quisiera irse a vivir el resto de su vida en este lugar, es único y mágico.

Uno de los tantos encantos de Asturias son los "Bufones de Pría". Los Bufones de Pría son grietas abiertas en la costa que están conectadas con las fosas oceánicas por donde el agua entra a presión y sale hacia arriba alcanzando hasta unos 20 metros de altura. Debes esperar para ver este impresionante espectáculo de la naturaleza, pero una vez que lo ves, te sientes muy pequeño. Los alrededores de esta zona son un encanto que vale la pena visitar.

Las playas de Torimbia en Asturias nos recibieron con un mágico atardecer y es que, Torimbia es una playa considerada como un paisaje protegido por la importancia de su vegetación y ecosistema que combinados con los colores del atardecer creaban una obra maestra.

Luego de aventurarnos por algunos de los tantos paisajes de Asturias, nos involucramos con su gente y su cultura y nos fuimos hasta Gijón. Gijón, tiene sus orígenes en el siglo V y hoy en día, es una ciudad importante en turismo y educación. Su gente es muy amable y me encanta la importancia que tienen los perros aquí. Es una ciudad pequeña, pero muy acogedora. Perderserse por sus calles es como atravesar una máquina del tiempo.

Por su parte, la capital de Asturias, Oviedo también tiene secretos ocultos. Caminamos por las calles de Oviedo y veíamos como la modernidad se ha fusionado con la arquitectura de la época, resaltando, entre tantas edificaciones, la Catedral de Oviedo. Una estructura de arquitectura gótica que impresiona con solo verla.

De Asturias nos llevamos el sabor de la sidra y de los mejores quesos de España, nos llevamos también ese calor humano que te espera en cada tienda o local acompañado de una sonrisa. Asturias es mágico, increíble y te deja sin aliento. Espero poder visitar de nuevo estas hermosas tierras y transportarme nuevamente a un mundo nuevo. 

Porque más que un estilo de vida, viajar te teletransporta.

If there's something that I have learned in my last trips, it's that you can travel to a destination, to a culture and even to a decade or a century. Regardless of destination, traveling will always transport you to the unknown. That happened to us when we visited Asturias. We felt that we were entering not only into a new destination, but also transported in time and we were delighted with their culture. For some reason, Asturias has become the favorite destination for people in Spain; but without a doubt, it's now one of my favorite destinations.

Asturias is a state in the north of Spain bordering the Cantabrian Sea, but which surprises us with numerous mountainous landscapes. Green meadows, cliffs, mountains, beaches and cities. It does not surprise me if someone wanted to go live the rest of his life in this place, it is unique and magical.

One of the many charms of Asturias are the "Bufones de Pría". The Bufones de Pría are open cracks in the coast that are connected to the oceanic pits where the water enters under pressure and rises upwards reaching up to 20 meters high. You must wait to see this impressive spectacle of nature, but once you see it, you feel very small. The surroundings of this area are a charm that is worth visiting.

The beaches of Torimbia in Asturias received us with a magical sunset. Torimbia is a beach considered as a landscape protected by the importance of its vegetation and ecosystem that combined with the colors of the sunset create a masterpiece.

After venturing into some of the many landscapes of Asturias, we got involved with its people and culture and went to Gijón. Gijón, has its origins in the fifth century and today, is an important city in tourism and education. Its people are very friendly and I love how important dogs are here. It is a small city, but very welcoming. Getting lost in its streets is like going through a time machine.

The capital of Asturias, Oviedo also has hidden secrets. We walked through the streets of Oviedo and saw how modernity has merged with the architecture of the old times, highlighting, among many buildings, the Cathedral of Oviedo. A structure of Gothic architecture that impresses with just seeing it.

From Asturias we take the taste of cider and the best cheeses from Spain, we also take that human warmth that awaits you in each store or local accompanied by a smile. Asturias is magical, incredible and leaves you breathless. I hope I can visit these beautiful lands again and transport myself back to a new world.
